Had a service call where the unit would not start. Error: RPM LOSS
first thought was to change battery, so I did.
With the new battery, the generator attempted to turn over but sounded like it had some resistance. like it was turning over really slowly, like it was struggling to turn.
After it didn't fire up on the first attempt i got an RPM LOSS Error again. Then it simply would not turn over at all. just RPM LOSS Error.
Then I Noticed the Starter failed, which gave a little poof of smoke after several tries to start.
This instantly pointed me in the direction of the intake and exhaust valve clearances. I knew something was up.
ordered some valve cover gaskets, and a starter.
opened the valve covers and found a fairly tight Valve. (shown in video)
Generac specifically says between Lash should be set .002-.004 inches on the feeler gauge.
I used .003 because its right in the middle.
After adjusting valve lash, I replaced the starter, and it fired right up.
No more resistance.
generator is working great.
