Domenica Lorusso, MD, PhD, Fondazione IRCCS National Cancer Institute of Milan, Milan, Italy, discusses the second interim analysis of the Phase III ENGOT-cx11/GOG-3047/KEYNOTE-A18 study (NCT04221945). The analysis reveals that pembrolizumab combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy significantly improves overall survival (OS) compared to placebo plus chemoradiotherapy in high-risk locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) patients. At 36 months, the OS rate was 82.6% for pembrolizumab plus chemoradiotherapy versus 74.8% for placebo plus chemoradiotherapy, with a hazard ratio of 0.67. The safety profile of pembrolizumab plus chemoradiotherapy was manageable. These findings support its adoption as a new standard of care.
