Southeast Asia has grown into a hub filled with competitive sports. The Southeast Asian Games have been one of the most influential factors. Back in 1959, when it hosted its first-ever SEA Games, it only had accompanied 518 athletes, but at its latest event in 2019, it had over 5,630 competing for a diverse set of medals.

Due to the rise of competitive sports. The tremendous growth that occurred has influenced the development of several sporting venues across the region. And one that stood out has become the largest retractable stadium in the entire Asian continent, and the second around the world only behind United States’ AT&T Stadium.
This is the Jakarta International Stadium, and it is Indonesia’s super stadium. A mega-complex that is built on 22 hectares of land and can host over 82,000 spectators. Said to be the second-largest covered stadium by capacity in the entire world and the fifth-largest non-covered in Asia.
The Jakarta International Stadium is by far the most exciting sporting venue to be ever constructed in the region. Rising over 73 meters, it offers a 360-degree sky view deck on top where one can see the vast endless skies of the district. Its architectural design is inspired by its main tenant, the Persija Jakarta, expressively giving the locals a fresh sight to see. Its roof truss alone had a length that spanned 270 meters and had a total mass of over 3,900 tons, which made the engineering part of it a challenging task.
Because of the fact that this retractable stadium holds the biggest and heaviest stadium roof in the entire world. Its entire concept was developed to adhere to the standards of Federation Internationale de Football Association or short for FIFA, complimenting the matter that this already amazing project is yet another step ahead as a world-class structure. Such magnificent feats have enabled the country to have a benchmark for future developments in Jakarta. And has also shown the entire world that they too can lead the creation of complex engineering structures that stand as of world-class quality.
This new international stadium will help boost and inspire Indonesia’s current and future athletes. The construction of sporting venues does this by signaling to the people, that they have a place where they can express their passion, and that there is a path already laid down to go forth and chase their goals.
Primarily, this mega project will be used as a football stadium serving an Indonesian football club known as the Persija Jakarta, a team that is widely perceived as one of the most successful in the country. Its adherence to international standards has likewise entitled the stadium to be visited by some of the biggest European Clubs and will even play a friendly match against the local stars of Indonesian Football.
But obviously, just like every other stadium around the world, this will also be able to hold other events. It was built to accommodate a wide range of sports, music, conferences, and other events and, at the same time, designed to not lose its vivid experience. As such it was even said that the world-famous Korean Pop group called BTS may hold a concert of their own.
The entire project was reported to cost over 5 billion rupiah or 340 million United States dollars, which is quite a reasonable amount considering how big it is and how much effort it took to build it. According to its technical feasibility, however, given a small investment, it will still take 14 years to pay itself, meaning that in all aspects it is going to have a hard time becoming financially workable. Despite its financial aspects, it will still give the country a show they have never experienced before. Staking in the possibility of hosting international events will spur economic growths in several industries it holds. This will indeed be a remarkable sight to see once it happens.
