ABC7 crews were in D.C. before dawn Friday, along with a crowd of thousands attending the "Get Your Knees Off Our Necks" Commitment March on Washington. It's the 57th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech in 1963.
Protests began in the city on Friday night, as President Donald Trump accepted his presidential nomination from the Republican party at the White House.
As he spoke, nearby crowds attempted to make enough noise to interrupt his speech.
It is unclear how many people attended today's march, though it's almost certainly fewer than might have if it weren't for the COVID-19 pandemic and D.C.'s coronavirus precautions.
The day started at the Lincoln Memorial at 7 a.m. That's where a program and speeches were happening between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s son and granddaughter spoke, as did the Rev. Al Sharpton and families of victims of police violence. Participants later marched from there to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
