Victor Rivera had another great question, wondering if using High Speed Sync with speedlights is a good way to still be able to use flash and overpower the sun when shooting outdoors.

Here’s Victor’s question (The results he is referring to is in regard to a photo of a truck which you’ll see in the video):

“I agree with Vincent when purchasing the nikon or canon brands. they're expensive. I personally have the yongnuo 568ex flashes and they're great. $104.00 each. In regards to over powering the bright sun, my question is could you have used your flashes in HSS mode? would you have been able to accomplish the same as with the strobes?”

So the short answer is no, High Speed Sync (HSS) would not have allowed me to get the same results as I got shooting the photo with studio strobes. Principally because when shooting speedlights with HSS, the power output is greatly diminished.

I explain fully in the video why in this case HSS is no good for overpowering the sun, and when it is perfect for overpowering the sun.
