In this video, recorded on the IPhone 15 Pro Max on Saturday, October 14 (9:25pm), 2023, we see one of the last times a C&NW AC44CW travels on the former ex-C&NW line, now Union Pacific Geneva Sub through Rochelle, IL with Metra Commuter Rail up to Elburn, IL. Joining this operation lifesaver unit is another 2 Union Pacific intermodal trains, with 2 of the 3 headed west out of Chicagoland. This special train was IG4SE, headed to Seattle Washington (Argo yard) after getting off the Indiana Harbor Belt interchange, previously in Joliet, IL (Global 4). Along with this catch (not shown in the video), 6 more Union Pacific trains show up this hour of Saturday night, which is a better than average amount in one hour.
We also see a horn show from Metra 90, a heritage unit representing the Chicago and Northwestern, arriving Elmhurst at 9:13pm, meeting a inbound Metra train also scheduled to arrive at 9:13, both with an EMD F59PHI, previously owned Amtrak units that were sold to Metra.
It’s very rare to see two Chicago and Northwestern painted units in 10 minutes. See another video on the channel where Metra 90 meets Union Pacific 1995, both a C&NW heritage unit.
