A permanent change of station, or PCS, is a move that is ordered by the military. A PCS can be to a new duty station, either within the United States or overseas, or it can be for a new permanent assignment. The first step in preparing for a PCS is to submit a Request for Orders, or RFO. Once the RFO is processed, the service member will receive their orders, which will include information on their new assignment, travel dates, and any allowances that have been authorized. The next step is to begin packing and making travel arrangements. For those who are moving overseas, there are additional steps that must be taken, such as obtaining a passport and making arrangements for pet travel. Once all of the preparations have been made, it's time to make the move. A PCS can be an exciting time, but it's also important to be prepared so that the transition goes smoothly.
