The Ancient City of Perge is located in Aksu district, 17 kilometers east of Antalya city center. The city, believed to have existed during the Hittite Period and known as "Parha", became one of the most orderly cities of Anatolia during the Roman Period. The sculptures unearthed during the excavations in the ancient city, which is famous for its architecture and marble sculpture, have made the Antalya Museum one of the most important sculpture museums.
The basis of the Perge city plan consists of two main streets, one running east-west and the other in the north-south direction.the theater with a capacity of 15 thousand spectators is quite well preserved. Located opposite the seating areas is the elaborately decorated two-story stage building M.S. it was built in the 2nd century. The works found from here are constantly exhibited in the Antalya Museum ‘Perge Theater Hall' today. The perfection of these sculptures reflects the unique style school of Perge sculpture in a very beautiful way. The stadium, which is another basic structure of the ancient city of Perge, is one of the best preserved stadiums in Turkey. Other social and cultural buildings that reflect the Decrepitude of the city in antiquity include the rectangular agora, high towers, monumental fountains, baths and colonnaded streets. Perge is also important for Christianity. Saint Paul, one of the most important figures of Christianity, arrived in Perge via the Aksu River during his missionary travels. Due to the fact that it is written in the Bible, the city and the stream are considered one of the sacred places of Christianity.
