My Emerson Sensi WiFi thermostat didn't do what it was supposed to do when I tried connecting it to my WiFi. It has been installed for a few years but I have never been able to figure out the "smart" function. It said OFF in the top center display and WIRELESS in the top left, but did not show the WiFi fan symbol and didn't show up as a network option on my phone. After playing with it for a long while, I got lucky and figured it out. I wanted to share this solution in case anybody else is experiencing the same issue.
Just a side-note as a word of caution, if ever your batteries die, there is no backup programming to keep your house warm. If you go away in the winter, check that your batteries are good before you leave or you might return to frozen pipes and dead plants. I guess that's the price we pay for convenience...
