Friday, 5th February 2010. Mumbai, India. Building codes and practices for vertical transportation applied in India are not meant for high rise buildings. Vertical Transportation in many high rise office towers in India is heavily under dimensioned. The expected boom in high rise towers, especially in Mumbai, will require a change of the rules used in India for elevators. This presentation highlights some of the limitations of the current codes, and suggest better alternatives, as well as highlighting some of the influencing issues such as "stack effect" and "building sway" which have an important effect on vertical transportation.
