The case is about whether someone who helps someone commit a crime can be punished for a worse crime than the person who actually did it. Two people, McCoy and Lakey, were convicted of murder and attempted murder, but their convictions were overturned due to errors in the trial. The court is deciding whether Lakey's convictions should also be overturned because of McCoy's overturned convictions. The issue is whether an aider and abettor is responsible for the same level of crime as the person they helped, or if they can be punished for a worse crime.
