This is Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s (KFRS’) response to the latest ‘Baby Shark’ craze doing the rounds on social media, which uses the annoying, but catchy tune to help show people the rhythm needed for chest compressions when carrying out CPR in the event of a cardiac arrest.
The background of the song is 110 beats per minute, which lands in the middle of the recommended rate for chest compressions (100 to 120 per minute), so it’s the perfect rhythm to use.
KFRS’ community safety team, with the help of their family safety mascots, Woody and Elsa Byrnes, helped to create this video, which supports our work in delivering essential basic-life support skills and CPR to our communities.
Love it or loathe it, this tune is likely to stick in your head and hopefully will remind you of what you need to do to help save a life.
