“Who is morally clean enough to actually host the World Cup?”
While speaking on The News Agents podcast, journalist Piers Morgan revealed that he will be attending the Qatar World Cup and criticised the debate surrounding the tournament.
Ever since winning the bid to host the World Cup, Qatar has been facing criticism over LGBTQ+ and migrant worker rights in the country. Various football federations and players have said that they intend to protest or show solidarity with protesters during the tournament.
Earlier, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said that Qatar has faced “unprecedented criticism that no other host country has suffered”. He added that some of it included “slander and double standards” and that it causes people to “wonder about the real motives and reasons behind the campaign”.
