Woodlawn Memorial Park Nashville - Final resting place of legends-some with an Elvis Presley link. Where is George Jones buried? Where is Porter Wagner buried? This is the famous cemetery of famous singers, famous musicians and recording studio legends. Woodlawn Cemetery is just outside Nashville Tennessee. As you might expect there are many with links to Elvis Presley including Gordon Stoker of Elvis backing group The Jordanaires, Elvis' 70s backing singer JD Sumner, Guitar Man and US Male songwriter Jerry Reed. Also country legends Eddy Arnold, Porter Wagoner, Little Jimmy Dickens and of course the Possum himself, George Jones is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. The grave of George Jones is very ornate. Also, Tammy Wynette, Lynn Anderson, Billy Sherrill, Owen Bradley, Larrie Londin, Bob Montgomery, Webb Pierce, and the Speer Family, Ed Brown, Otis Blackwell, Dottie Rambo are all buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Woodlawn Cemetery also houses their own recreation of Christ's tomb.
There's Gordon Stoker One of the Jordanaires.
He was with the Jordanaires all the way through their time with Elvis. Gordon Stoker was the first Jordanaire to sing on an Elvis record.
on January 11 1956 at McGavock Street with 'I Was The One' and 'I'm Counting On You'.
Boudleaux and Felice Bryant who wrote nearly all the Everly Brothers 1950s hits.
'Wake Up Little Susie', 'Bye Bye Love', 'Problems', 'All I Have To Do Is Dream' of course, 'Bird Dog' 'Raining In My Heart' - Buddy Holly,
And 'Rocky Top'
Otis Blackwell wrote 'Don't Be Cruel', 'All Shook Up', 'Return To Sender'.
'All Shook Up' I think was the last song that Elvis's name appeared on that he had no hand in writing.
Tammy Wynette. Of course she's a big country singer in her own right. But interestingly Tammy Wynette was in the audience at Elvis's Tupelo shows in September 1956.
Jerry Hubbard is Jerry Reed. Wrote 'Guitar Man' 'U.S. Male' for Elvis
and when they couldn't replicate the guitar on 'Guitar Man' from Jerry Reed's original
they called him in and he played on the recording of 'Guitar Man'.
Dottie Rambo - country singer. She recorded a lot of her hits at Studio B.
Jim Ed Brown toured with his sister Maxine Brown toured with Elvis in 1955 quite a bit.
JD Sumner and The Stamps backed Elvis from November 1971 to the last concerts in June 1977.
Elvis and JD Sumner had first met when JD Sumner joined The Blackwoods in 1954 following the plane crash at the end of June 1954 that killed Bill Lyles and RW Blackwood,
Elvis very often attending all-night singings at Ellis Auditorium
So this is one of the more elaborate graves here in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. George Jones. One of his biggest later hits there 'He Stopped Loving Her Today'.
George Jones was and is the king of broken hearts. Billy Sherrill who was a record producer.
Died 2015
Jerry Chestnut died December 15 2018.
I know Jerry Chestnut from those songs there 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E', 'It's Midnight', and 'Love Coming Down' which of course Elvis recorded.
'The Wonders You Perform'. Elvis was scheduled to record that at Stax as well but that was one that the band laid down after Elvis didn't show up for the last day of recording but he never actually got to record a vocal track for it. There's Johnny Paycheck. Again I can't say I know much about Johnny Paycheck apart from his car is on display in the Johnny Cash Storytellers Museum in Bon Aqua, Tennessee.
This is Larry Londin. Drummer. "Elvis, Neil Young, Tammy Wynette, BJ Thomas, Hank Snow, Roy Rogers, Charlie Rich, Roger Miller, Ronnie Milsap, Olivia Newton-John, BB King,
There's Webb Pierce - died in 1991.
Webb Pierce. at his peak probably in the '50s appeared on the bill above Elvis of course in 1955 several times, including the Overton Park Shell second appearance Elvis made there, on 5 August 1955. And at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show on August 1 1955.
Here's Bob Montgomery was with Buddy Holly in the mid-50s, out there in Lubbock Texas on radio station KDAV, and they were a double act - Buddy and Bob.
It was Buddy and Bob, on the Cotton Club shows that KDAV had put on in Lubbock Texas, that Elvis appeared on that Buddy and Bob were on the bill.
So I've found Webb Pierce, Bob Montgomery, Larry Londin. I can't find Marty Robbins Porter Wagoner.
