Tanning WILL occur when you have high sun exposure . We can’t prevent it completely but we can reduce it. Same with melasma.
Here are a few ways to reduce tanning:
✅Oral Antioxidants: this helps in reducing tanning as well as faster recovery. Look for ingredients like astaxanthin, vitamin c and alpha lipoic acid.
✅Sunscreen: this is the most important. Use susncreen with SPF 50. Apply a layer of lotion or cream sunscreen and can use a sunscreen stick for easy reapplication.
✅Physical sun protection: just applying susncreen is not enough, wear visors, hats, sunglasses to protect your skin.
✅Skin lightening agents : after 5-7 days, start using serums with kojic acid or alpha arbutin twice a day.
✅gentle exfoliants: glycolic acid or lactic acid can be used on alternate nights to cause gentle exfoliation and reduce tanning.
✅chemical peeling: a few sessions of chemical peeling done at a clinic setting can help in reducing tanning. This should be done where there is no dryness or irritation or signs of sun burn on the skin .
