Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri is a Pakistani-Canadian Islamic scholar, author, and former politician:
• Education
Born in Jhang, Pakistan in 1951, Qadri studied law at the University of Punjab, where he became the youngest person to ever be awarded a professorship. He also studied Islamic jurisprudence and earned a doctorate.
• Career
Qadri has worked as a professor, legal advisor, and specialist adviser on Islamic curricula. He is also the founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, an organization that promotes peace and interfaith dialogue.
• Writing
Qadri has written over 1,000 books and given more than 6,000 lectures in Urdu, English, and Arabic. He gained international recognition after releasing a 600-page fatwa against terrorism and suicide bombings.
• Politics
Qadri was a former politician and founded Pakistan Awami Tehreek. He returned to Pakistan in 2012 and led a rally against the then government. His call to move towards parliament divided Pakistanis.
• Influential
Qadri has been featured in every edition of The 500 Most Influential Muslims since 2009
