2025 MINI Countryman JCW POV test drive, spirited drive, highway drive, launch control, 0-60 acceleration, exhaust sound, review.
You can say whatever you want about the MINI Countryman, but not that it’s boring or unoriginal, and that applies to all three generations of MINI’s sub-compact crossover.
That’s right, 2025 model year marks a third generation of the Countryman and changes are clearly visible - the car has been completely redesigned inside and out, following MINI’s current, more minimalistic design language and received new technology.
The mechanical changes are a little less drastic. The Countryman is still based on the UKL2 front wheel drive platform, shared with cars like the BMW X1, X2, or the 2-series Gran Coupe, and features a strut front suspension and a multilink setup in the back. The JCW gets adaptive dampers as standard, and 4-piston brakes up front with upgraded pads.
Now, in the U.S., we get one engine in the Countryman, a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder pushing out 241 HP in the S variant, or 312 HP in the John Cooper Works, that you see here. Both come with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission with a mechanical LSD, and for this generation, AWD is standard. There is also a fully electric, 308-hp SE model, which can do up to 212 miles.
Pricing starts at around 40 thousand dollars for the S, 46 for the SE, and tops at a litter over 50 grand for a fully loaded JCW as tested.
Other SUVs to consider are a BMW X1, Subaru Crosstrek, MINI Cooper 4 door, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, Mazda CX-5, Fiat 500X, Mazda CX 30, Tesla Model Y.
