The Great Trek was an eastwards movement of Dutch Settlers in South Africa. This movement was as a result of the increasing influence of the British Colonial Government in South Africa.
The Dutch Settlers never wanted to be subjugated by the Imperial British Colonial Control. This made them to move eastwards. This eastwards movement led to the establishment of some Boers Republics. They took over Africans land and established their Republics.
They faced labour shortage not withstanding forcing African people to work for little pay or no pay.
To solve the labour shortage issue, they looked towards India from recruitment.
