We can’t talk about the climate without talking about the ocean, and we can’t shape a shared agenda for our ocean when only select voices are being heard. That’s why at COP27, Oceanic Global launched The Ocean x Climate Summit, a day-long immersive event that not only changed the focus of the conversation at COP, but also challenged how it takes form.
40+ global speakers, and 300+ guests joined forces to place the ocean center stage through a series of diverse dialogues, artistic mediums, and participatory experiences. Because as our program partner from @IOCUNESCO stated on stage, in approaching the issues that impact us all “we need to not only speak to the brains of people, we need to speak to their hearts.”
Amongst the key highlights from The Ocean x Climate Summit were the vital amplification of global indigenous voices from India, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and New Zealand, the premiere of the short film by Arizona Muse “Water”, as well as the premiere of OceanX’s latest footage from the Red Sea, the announcement of our supporting Sponsor Salesforce Blue Carbon Principles, the premiere of musician AY Young song for Goal 14 “Life Below Water” and the world debut of the first-ever carbon-sink sculpture as part of the upcoming The Reefline project. The first-of-its-kind event at COP also featured a pioneering, open-to-the-public roundtable that gave audience members the opportunity to participate in dialogue with UN representatives and others deeply involved in intergovernmental negotiations.
Thank you again to all who attended, to our program partner UNESCO - Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission supporting sponsor Salesforce and to all of our community partners for making the event possible and helping to put the ocean first.
