"I created a couple macro custom actions to do this, assigned it to an unused key and it works.. good luck!
From action menu ➡️ show actions
Custom action ➡️ new
I titled it "play selected item"
then add these from the actions list in order:
Item: Unselect all items
Item: Select item under mouse cursor
Item Navigation: Move cursor to start of items
Transport: Play
"OK" and close etc..
OR: and I assigned this to space bar, and it did not remove function of playing back from wherever cursor is placed otherwise
Item navigation: Move cursor to start of items
Transport: play/stop
