Music therapy can lower agitation and improve the cognitive skills of dementia patients. Videos to entertain dementia patients can provide a much-needed distraction that gives caregivers a short pause to rest.
Caregiver burnout is possible when providing care for a dementia patient or Alzheimer's patient and you have no respite care. The day-to-day duties of a caregiver and a dementia patient's behavior can be stressful and frustrating.
My mother suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. She loved looking at photos and videos on my phone. She particularly enjoyed nature and animal videos. It provided us 15 to 20 minutes of uninterrupted quiet time during a day that was often filled with non-stop tasks and dealing with a roller coaster of emotions.
This is a video of cats and kittens playing, jumping, eating, sleeping, and just being downright cute. The country music is calm but not sad which could have the opposite effect you desire. These videos for dementia patients are for family caregivers, nursing homes, and professional caregivers such as a CNA or medical assistant to give you some tools to give you a break, if only for 20 minutes.
