The hike to Lake Bachalpsee offers everything a hiker's heart desires: A magnificently-landscaped path leads through lush flowering alpine meadows. On the opposite side of the valley, ice-capped four-thousand metre mountains tower in the air. At the start of the hike, a short, but considerable climb must be tackled. The wide, well-maintained hiking trail then takes you from the gondola summit station up to the Gummihütte. The sharp, jagged peaks of the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn on the opposite side of the valley stand in stark contrast to the pretty flowering meadows lining the trail.

Lake Bachalpsee - the blue gem

After a short period of hiking, a more or less flat path leads from the Gummihütte to Lake Bachalp. The majestic Schreckhorn is reflected in the blue jewel of the Bernese Alps during windless conditions. Expansive meadows and numerous benches invite you to take a long break and enjoy the stunning panorama.

It's impossible to imagine the Swiss mountain world as more idyllic than the area surrounding Lake Bachalpsee. The snow-covered peaks of the Alps are reflected in the crystal-clear blue water.

First is the starting point for hikes and it offers action: An adrenaline rush and speed thrills are guaranteed on the First Flyer, trottibike scooters or bikes. Children can have fun on the 700 m² playground at the Bort intermediate station.

First is a minor summit on the slopes of the Schwarzhorn in the Bernese Oberland. It is mostly known as a cable car station above Grindelwald and as a popular hiking area with the Bachalpsee in proximity. It is also the destination of the classic hike: Schynige Platte-Faulhorn-First.

Grindelwald is a village and municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. Besides the village of Grindelwald, the municipality also includes the settlements of Alpiglen, Burglauenen, Grund, Itramen, Mühlebach, Schwendi, Tschingelberg and Wargistal.
