Dementia is one of the toughest health challenges of our time.
Affecting more than 45 million people worldwide, a new case is diagnosed every three seconds. Thanks to £290million from founding funders the UK Dementia Research Institute was launched in 2017, to revolutionise what we know and can do about dementia. We’re here to build understanding so that we can diagnose, treat and ultimately prevent dementia.
The UK DRI is not a traditional research institute.
We have seven centres at leading universities across the UK, each bringing unique expertise, supported and connected by a dedicated headquarters team. We’re working across the spectrum of diseases that give rise to dementia. All the way from cells, to circuits, to systems, to find much needed treatments. And by probing the earliest signs of disease, we will find a way to stop dementia, before it’s even started.
At the same time it’s important we find the best ways to care for people today, by harnessing the latest technologies.
To achieve all this, our researchers share ideas, techniques and data. There is a vast gap in our knowledge of dementia And we need to fill it. By growing the task force and investing in technology, infrastructure and ideas.
We think differently. Our hundreds of researchers work as one. All to improve the quality of life for everyone touched by dementia. Our doors are open...Come on in.
