The Col de la Coche is a 1791 metre high pass located above the eastern side of the Durance valley and can be reached after a 12 km drive from the village of Saint-André-d'Embrun. There are some impressive views of the Durance valley on the journey; the pass itself is rather inconspicuous. From here, the crossing to the Col de Valbelle begins, mainly in an easterly direction. At 2381 metres, the Col de Valbelle is the highest pass in the Risoul 1850 ski area. The route is mostly a well-maintained and easily navigable gravel track, which mostly leads through wooded areas. In many places, however, you still have a good view of the Vallon de Palps to the left/north. In the last fifth of the route, the forest ends and the ski areas around Risoul 1850 begin. Here the route becomes somewhat rougher and steeper up to the Col de Valbelle.
The road is located in the Hautes-Alpes department in the province of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
