Cheekwood's expanded Trains! exhibit, Enchanted Express, is now open!
A new immersive expansion activates the large open area just uphill of the existing TRAINS! exhibit. An enchanted train station combines the architecture of a traditional train depot with the natural form of an old tree, as if the train station grew from the earth. Children are transported to a secret garden and charming forest scene upon entering, greeted by some of the familiar animal and insect creatures that live together in our natural world. Inside the train station, three themed models are arranged on each side of a central viewing area and one of a series of overlapping tracks passes through the structure. On each side is an entrance to a short children’s tunnel, leading to an observation dome for an up-close and immersive ‘worm’s-eye-view’ of both the garden and forest.
The expansion will also encompass three additional tracks, providing 235 more feet. Applied Imagination of Alexandria, Kentucky has led the creative expression of garden railways at Cheekwood for over ten years and proudly introduces the new expansion this spring.
