In the latest move to woo the middle class, the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government has announced that cars entering the state’s capital, Mumbai, will no longer need to pay a toll. The decision will come into effect from midnight. CM Shinde said all light motor vehicles would be exempt from any toll tax at the five toll booths for entry into Mumbai. This move will save commuters’ time and reduce pollution and traffic. And termed the move as a “historic decision"". Opposition has slammed the Shinde government, calling the move a jumla and desperate.
