Every garden needs this plant - Canna edulis or QLD Arrowroot. It is one of my all time favourite permaculture plants - particularly to get a garden started but also to bring so so much abundance, and mulch, and to moderate the microclimate. Great for people and animals. Adaptable, hardy, perennial, versatile. Originally an Incan food. Eat the rhizomes and leaves. Easy to cultivate and almost pest free.
