Swapped in a Walbro wt-215 fully adjustable carburetor and modified the muffler. Stock the saw was turning almost 15k and was way too lean on the high side. It's now set to 14k and seems to be much happier there. The swap was fairly straight forward and in my eyes worth the $35 it cost for an OEM Walbro carb. I usually try to avoid investing time & money on saws of this design. They can be rather frustrating. Conversely, in some cases like this one, they can also be made to run quite well if you're willing to invest the time.
