Membrane is essentially Polyvinyl Chloride, more commonly known by its abbreviation, PVC. It's all over the house, your pipes and your windows. But how do you get a Membrane Finish?
A specialized PVC Foil is wrapped around either MDF or HDF-HMR under a high vacuum pressure to produce this. This finish is so moldable that it adapts its shape to the grooves of the core material. It also wraps across the edges, so there is no need for an Edgeband. It's amazing at keeping moisture out. It is extremely low on maintenance, easy to clean, and since it's moldable it's ideal child-proofing! You can make furniture with edges that are rounded and safe. The PVC will mould right over.
Membrane finishes come in a plethora of textures, from glossy, to matte to textured finishes. They come in solid colours, patterns and woodgrain finishes. Speaking of woodgrain finishes, because Membrane wraps around the edge of a panel and has no edgeband so to speak, it simulates wood the best. When you look at a panel of woodgrain finished membrane, it feels like you are holding a panel of solid wood.
