Investment grade jewellery
1. A Tiffany’s Bee ring designed by Jean Schlumberger
-Jean Schlumberger is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) jewellery designers of the 20th century. His designs are forever classic but modern. They’re intricate and beyond their time. Tiffany is still producing pieces based on his sketches and the creations are a sell out even to this date. One of the most famous work is the Bird on a rock, which one can easily keep as an investment piece or heirloom.
-The stone is Tanzanite. It is one of Tiffany’s heritage stones. It was discovered by Tiffany’s gemologists in Tanzania in 1968. The colour of the stone is truly unique with a hue of blue/purple.
2. A Paraíba tourmaline ring from a private collection
-Who doesn’t love blue?
-Paraíba tourmaline is a relatively new stone. It was discovered in Brazil in 1989. IGS classified it to be among “the world’s most prized gemstones”.
-Cuprian elbaite tourmalines come in blue/green tones, with bright neon fire which is signature to the stone.
-This particular one is large with a bright neon blue hue, which really captured my soul. This is the second most beautiful Elbaite tourmaline ring I have ever seen.
-Diamonds are rare, but not as rare as a Paraíba tourmaline. It is estimated that for every 10,000 diamonds mined, there is only one Paraíba successfully mined.
-In the February Sotheby’s Hong Kong auction, there is a Paraíba type tourmaline ring weighing 11.45 carats. The lot 270 is estimated to fetch more than USD 100k. I can’t wait to see it in person!
