The PNR Calamba-Lucena Train line re-opened last April 1, 2024, and we simply have to go there to experience the joy of taking the train between Calamba and Lucena and doing it "balikan".
So, on April 3, we hopped on a bus from Alabang to Calamba for the 5:45PM train going to Lucena. The train station is located near the Calamba Crossing and it took us about 10 minutes on foot to get there.
The fare from Calamba to Lucena is 105 pesos (84 for seniors). The train departed at exactly 5:45PM as scheduled. We experienced a smooth ride all the way to Lucena on the train made in Indonesia by PT Inka.
We arrived in Lucena around 8:30PM. Upon arrival, we explored the city at night: having our fill of chami and siopao at Cafe Antigua, visiting the night market (Mercato Lucena), going to the Capitol, the cathedral, and the public market, seeing how the city comes alive after dark. It was a sleepless night exploring but it was fun!
We returned to the train station at 4AM to wait for the 5AM train from Lucena to Calamba. The train left at 5AM as scheduled and we arrived in Calamba about two and a half hours later feeling a bit tired but very happy with our roundtrip train experience.
