The Martin P5M Marlin manufactured by Glenn L. Martin Company is a twin-engine piston-powered flying boat patrol aircraft developed from the Martin PBM Mariner. The Martin P5M Marlin saw its action during the Vietnam War aiding in the detection and tracking of military shipping from North Vietnam to South Vietnam. The Martin P5M Marlin was equipped with a searchlight mounted on its starboard wing as well as radar and magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) equipment. The maiden flight of the P5M Marlin took place on the 30th of May 1948 and it went into service in 1952. Primary users were the United States Navy, United States Coast Guard and the French Navy. There were approx. 285 P5M Marlin produced. The P5M Marlin retired from service in 1967.
