THE WAY OF THE RIGHTEOUS
Tomorrow (Sunday, 1/23), gather with your Calvary Chapel family in the main sanctuary or on Facebook and Youtube (Calvary Inverness), as we take a few moments to examine Psalm chapter 1 with a message entitled- “The Way of the Righteous.”
Psalm 1 is called the preamble to the book of Psalms. That is, it serves as an introduction to the entire book. What is said in Psalm 1 is relevant to all the rest of the book of Psalms. Charles Spurgeon viewed it this way: “The matter of the first Psalm, which may be looked upon, in some respects, as the text upon which the whole of the Psalms makes up a divine sermon.”
The psalms begin with these words: “Blessed is the man.” In Psalm 1, God addresses man’s most basic question: How can I be blessed in this life? In its most basic form, the word blessed means happy, fortunate, and to be envied.
Is this true? Does God want us to be blessed in this way? Absolutely! Also, the word translated blessed is plural in the original Hebrew. That is, it means endless blessings. It can be read as blessednesses or happiness. And this is not temporary happiness in things of this world. Instead, it is the godly contentment and fullness we find when we follow God.
So how can I be happy, truly happy in a biblical sense? Psalm 1 is called a wisdom psalm because we learn that blessedness results from our choice to follow God’s direction in life. In this psalm, the writer sets forth two paths in life. One is the right way that leads to a life full of blessings, and the other is the wrong way that leads to misery.
Brothers and sisters, God enjoys blessing your life, but as Warren Wiersbe said, you must be blessed.
Question: How are we blessed?
Psalm 1 answers this question with great and vivid detail. Please take the time to read over this beautiful portion of scripture, and then Sunday morning as a body, we will see what the Lord has to say to each of us about The Way of the Righteous.
There are several opportunities for worship. On-campus (10:00 am), drive-in church (92.1fm), and online (Facebook and YouTube: Calvary Inverness)
Please pray for our time together to experience a fresh outpouring of His Spirit upon our hearts, and through His Word, we will be changed to be more like Christ. Hope to see you somewhere at Calvary.
Blessings,
Pastor Paul
