"Carbon credits that have been purchased by the government mainly fall into three baskets, either avoided deforestation credits, they're credits for trying to grow forests again, or they're for landfill gas.
"All three methods have huge problems, which means that the credits that are coming out of them, the low integrity credits, don't represent real emissions reductions or emissions reductions that would have happened anyway and therefore a waste of money."
