The Africa Regional Integration Index (ARII) 2019 report was launched online in May 2020 jointly by the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
It succeeds and updates ARII 2016, the first attempt to systematically measure or quantify regional integration in Africa.
ARII measures how well a country in Africa is integrated within its region. Integration is measured:
1. at the continental level, i.e. the ranking of the 54 African countries
2. at the level of the sub-regions, i.e. regional economic communities (RECs), the 8 RECs recognised by the African Union
3. at the dimensional level
ARII has 5 dimensions: the trade, productive, macroeconomic, infrastructural and free movement of people dimensions
This video is part of a SERIES. It presents the results of ARII 2019 at the continental level and at the level of the 5 dimensions.
Check out forthcoming videos for results by RECs.
