STORYLINE
An American college student accused of murdering her British roommate in Italy continued her testimony on Saturday.
Amanda Knox, from Seattle, was scheduled to face questioning from the prosecution as the trial continued in Perugia.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Meredith Kercher was killed on 1 November 2007 after returning home from an outing with friends.
They say she opened the door for her 21-year-old roommate and her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito.
Sometime later that night, prosecutors say, Kercher was killed during what began as a sex game.
Kercher's body was found the next day in a pool of blood in the apartment she shared with Knox in Perugia, central Italy.
During her testimony on Friday, the American student offered an alibi for the night of the 2007 killing and said police beat her into making a false statement in the case.
Knox said she smoked pot, had sex with her boyfriend and fell asleep at his apartment on the night of Kercher's death.
She said she did not return home until after her roommate was killed.
Knox and Sollecito have been jailed since shortly after the murder.
They are both charged with murder and sexual violence.
They could face Italy's stiffest punishment, life imprisonment, if convicted of murder.
