NEW 2023 SNAP Benefits Increase Update (MARCH/APRIL) - EBT Food Stamps For Low Income Today
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, is a federal assistance program that provides food assistance to low-income individuals and families. In 2023, there will be an increase in SNAP benefits approved, which will positively impact the lives of millions of Americans who rely on this program to put food on the table. The pandemic has had a profound impact on the economy, leaving many families struggling to make ends meet. In response, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which included a temporary increase in SNAP benefits to help families put food on the table during the pandemic. The increase was set to expire on September 30, 2021, but was extended until December 31, 2021, by the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2022 and Other Extensions Act. In December 2021, Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022, which included a permanent increase in SNAP benefits. The average monthly benefit per person will increase by approximately 25 percent, from $121 to $152, beginning in October 2023. This increase is the largest in the history of the SNAP program and will provide much-needed relief to families struggling with food insecurity. The increase in SNAP benefits will not only help families put food on the table, but it will also stimulate the economy. Research has shown that every dollar spent on SNAP benefits generates $1.50 to $1.80 in economic activity, as families spend their benefits at local grocery stores and supermarkets. This increased economic activity can create jobs and boost local economies. Furthermore, the increase in SNAP benefits will have a positive impact on the health and well-being of low-income individuals and families. Research has shown that food insecurity is linked to poor health outcomes, including chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. By providing families with more resources to purchase healthy foods, the SNAP program can improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs in the long run. In conclusion, the increase in SNAP benefits approved for 2023 is a positive development that will provide much-needed relief to millions of Americans struggling with food insecurity. The increase will not only help families put food on the table, but it will also stimulate the economy and improve the health and well-being of low-income individuals and families. It is important that we continue to support programs like SNAP to ensure that all Americans have access to the basic necessities of life.
