Jelutong is a southern suburb of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. It is, for the most part, a working-class suburb.
Jelutong got its name from the Jelutong tree, aka Dyera costulata. The Jelutong tree can grow up to 60 metres tall, and is coveted for its hardwood. It was believed that this species of trees was once abundant around the area now known as Jelutong.
Jelutong market is one of the largest and vibrant morning market in Penang. Other than fresh produce, it is also popular venue for breakfast.
The actual market building faces Jalan Penaga, but the stalls line up much of Jalan Penaga and Ipoh Lane.
