And the UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting to discuss the North's recent ICBM launch, where North Korea spoke for the first time in over five years.
A representative from the regime said the latest ICBM test was conducted to ensure the security of North Korea, adding that the missile landed far from Japan, and posed no threat.
He slammed the Washington Declaration signed by the leaders of South Korea and the U.S., arguing the agreement to form the Nuclear Consultative Group shows their willingness to use nuclear weapons against the North.
Thursday's meeting came at the request of the U.S., France, Japan, Albania, Malta and the U.K., with South Korea attending as an interested party.
