The Supreme Court is set to hear a series of petitions related to J&K today. A 5-Judge bench headed by NV Ramanna will hear 11 pleas related to the abrogation J&K’s special status that it enjoyed under Article 370 as well as the clampdown in the valley. After a delay of almost 3 decades, former terror commander and JKLF chief Yasin Malik will be produced before the court in Jammu after the judge issued a fresh production warrant in September and asked the Tihar Jail authorities to produce Malik in court on October 1. Yasin Malik led a group of terrorists on January 25, 1990, who squadron leader Ravi Khanna and 3 others. The Home Ministry on Monday commuted the death sentence of dreaded Babbar Khalsa terrorist Balwant Singh Rajaona, who assassinated former Punjab CM Beant Singh, to life sentence. Centre’s move to commute the death sentence has sparked massive political controversy.
