In this video Heimler walks you through Unit 4 topic 7 (4.7) of the AP Government curriculum which is all about the ideologies represented by the two major political parties in America: the Democrats and the Republicans.
While neither party aligns exactly with the dictates of their preferred ideology, Democrats generally hold to liberal ideology whereas Republicans generally hold to conservative ideology. This becomes apparently when you read through each party's platform, which are policy proposals they intend to enact if their candidates are elected.
