As unemployment hits record highs in Brazil, the number of people in need of food handouts is escalating in the country's biggest cities. There are now 13.5 million unemployed Brazilians. In Rio de Janeiro, the number of people living on the streets has nearly tripled over the last three years, reaching more than 14,000. Though economic activity in Brazil grew in February at the fastest pace since January 2010, unemployment hit a record high of 13.2 percent. Compared with the same time last year, the jobless rate surged 30.6 percent.
