SC On VVPAT Machine: The Supreme Court dismissed petitions seeking complete cross-verification of votes cast via Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs). Rejecting a return to ballot papers, the Court cited thorough examination of technical aspects for its decision. While suggesting electronic machines for counting paper slips, it upheld the current verification process but issued directives on sealing Symbol Loading Units and verifying EVMs. Despite opposition calls for full cross-checking of VVPAT slips with EVM votes, the Court maintained the existing protocol.
