After a short stay in Cambodia it was time to head across to our next country - Laos!
Whilst the journey started off well, 3 minivans later we arrived at the Cambodian land border and was met with our first stumbling block - the border guards trying to charge extra 'stamp fees'.
After refusing to pay, and the guards reluctantly handing our passports back after realising we weren't worth the hassle, we could then continue our journey to the Laos border.
However, after paying for our Laos visa the exact same thing happened - the Laotian guards demanded we pay an extra stamp fee. After refusing to pay (again!), the guard informed us it would take 6 hours to process our passports!
Our bus group stood our ground and settled in for a long wait...
But again, after just an hours wait, the guards grew tired of us and handed our passports back. With our extra dollars tucked safely in our pocket, we could at last head to our final destination in the 4000 Islands - Don Det!
Note - The 'stamp' fee or fees are not official and you do not have to pay them, despite the guards insisting you do.
Make sure you research the Laos visa cost for your country too before you cross too. At our time of crossing it was a flat rate of $40 for every nationality was displayed and requested, but official government websites can vary.
