In 1945, a Watchtower magazine forbade Jehovah's Witnesses from taking blood "directly into the human body." Since then, it is estimated that tens of thousands of Witnesses have died obeying this teaching. As the body count continues to grow, current and former Witnesses are declaring they will not be martyrs by destroying their "blood cards" and donating blood.
