Jack Sonni, who was 68 years old when he passed away on Wednesday, was referred to as "the other guitarist" in the rock band Dire Straits.
The band broke the news of Sonni's passing on X (which was formerly known as Twitter) with a post that contained a black-and-white photo of the guitarist. Sonni rose to renown after joining the band for their legendary "Brothers in Arms" album and tour.

It is not currently known what caused the legendary musician to pass away.
A recent post on the website that is operated by former members of the band Dire Straits shared the information that their bandmate Sonni was in ill health. This post was followed by the news that Sonni had passed away.
"Dear fans, due to unforeseen health issues, Jack Sonni will not be able to take part in our upcoming shows. We apologize for any inconvenience this may create. We are concerned about Jack and hope that he will recover soon. "With all of our love, the DSL family," the note concluded.
Following the news of the musician's passing, fans have taken to social media to pay their respects to the late rock hero."Very disheartening news. One of his fans claimed that he was just ten years older than she was.
"I worked with Jack; didn't know him very well, but he was one of those guys you knew was awesome because everyone said he was," said a second person. "He was one of those guys you knew was awesome because everyone said he was."

Sonni was born in the town of Indiana, which is located in west Pennsylvania. He began playing the piano, guitar, and trumpet at a very young age."Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember," Sonni stated in a previous interview on the Dire Straits site. My mother was a pianist, and my father was always listening to Frank Sinatra, early rock n' roll, and country music. My grandparents also enjoyed listening to music.
The late musician claimed that after he first took up a guitar when he was eight years old, he "never put it down."
"I started playing in front of people right away — in church, then coffeehouses, and then in bands playing school dances," recounted Sonni. In 1984, the band recruited Sonni to play guitar synthesizer on a track called "The Man's Too Strong" for their fifth studio album, titled "Brothers in Arms."
Sonni made his first performance with the band over a year later, during the world tour that Dire Straits did from 1985 to 1986.
In 1988, the rock singer decided to leave the band Dire Straits in order to "get a day job in marketing and advertising" and to "focus on raising my twin daughters."
