Justice Sanjiv Khanna appointed Next Chief Justice of India. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has recommended Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the second-most senior judge of the Supreme Court, as his successor. Upon government approval, Justice Khanna will become the 51st Chief Justice of India, serving a six-month tenure until his retirement in May 2025. A former Delhi High Court judge, Justice Sanjiv Khanna has an extensive legal career, including roles as Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department and Additional Public Prosecutor. His nomination follows CJI Chandrachud's retirement on November 10.
