Japan aims to be the first country to transmit solar energy from space to Earth for electricity generation. A public-private partnership led by JAXA plans to set up satellite transmitters by 2025. The satellites will convert solar power into microwaves and send them to ground-based receiving stations for conversion into electrical energy. This innovative approach offers advantages over terrestrial setups, including longer harvesting periods and operation in adverse weather conditions. Other countries, such as the European Space Agency, are also exploring space-based solar power. Further research is needed to make it feasible on a larger scale, but advancements in technology are driving efforts in this field.
