Transistor As Switch Class 12 Operation:

A transistor can work as a switch by operating in two modes: cutoff and saturation. In the cutoff mode, the transistor is switched off, and no current flows through it. On the other hand, in the saturation mode, the transistor is switched on, and the maximum current flows through it.

The circuit diagram of a transistor as a switch consists of an input voltage source, a load resistor, and a transistor. The transistor can be an NPN or PNP type, but in this video, we will focus on the NPN type. When the input voltage is applied to the base terminal of the transistor, it begins to conduct current from the collector to the emitter. This, in turn, allows the load resistor to be connected to the power supply and draw current.

The NPN transistor can be used as a switch by connecting a resistor to the base terminal. When the base voltage is less than the emitter voltage, the transistor is in the cutoff region and does not conduct. But when the base voltage is greater than the emitter voltage, the transistor enters the saturation region and allows current to flow through the load resistor.
