I’ve always wanted to make my own cocoa butter colors, but always thought it might be too hard or annoying to do. But because a lot of you asked me how to do it and also because DIY colors should be a bit cheaper, I pulled myself together and recorder my first attempt.
The option I want to show you is NOT cheaper than my favorite colors from Chef Rubber or Roxy and Rich, but I think it’s a first step into the right direction.
I bought pre-mixed powdered colors from The Sugar Art and thought I would be able to make cheaper colors, but ran the numbers after I purchased the powders and …oh well they colors I made are about $3 more expensive than the ready to use colors from Chef Rubber and Roxy and Rich.
It makes sense that my DIY colors with the powders from The Sugar Art are more expensive tho. They already mix different color tones and mica (that’s the glitter stuff) together, so you end but with not only primary colors like blue, yellow, red but with gold, purple or kiwi.
The basic rule is 10 parts cocoa butter to 1 part color. Don’t forget to temper your colors.
Here’s a video about how I temper my chocolate and colors:

I’ve heard from multiple people that Ebay is a good place to look for them. Just make sure it’s a food grade and a powder.
I also love this great explanation from I sugar coat it:
